Million Fishes Call for Art and Stories- April 5 Deadline
Submit work by April 5th 2011. Million Fishes is curating a a month of community-oriented queer arts happenings in June and we are seeking submissions for visual art, performance and storytelling! In June, our gallery will become an interactive queer wonderland filled with your creative takes on queer senses and sensibilities. We seek submissions that explore new definitions of what we’ve been raised with and the stories we know. What would happen if you stepped into your childhood and had your education, your learned behaviors, your fairytales reflect what you actually believe the world to be as a queer person? What if you didn’t have to grow into queerness but were raised in it, what stories would you be told? What would moments and influences look like that could support a queer worldview? What would it smell like, what would the textures be, how would the world reflect back to you? We invite community members to offer their own creation myths, cultural mythologies, queer sense and anecdotes of queer coming of age in the forms of visual art, installation, new media, performance and storytelling. For visual arts and performance submissions: Please include a one page proposal describing your work or performance and how you think it addresses our themes, with current, related images or video of your work, and any supplemental materials or information you think would be helpful. Include it with a cover letter with name/website/statement of work/phone number. For storytelling submissions: Please include a work sample, 1-2 pages, the intended piece if possible, or an additional 100-150 word description of the intended piece.
